I plan to validate my DV in a couple months - which as you know will trigger my GC. I also plan to apply for a re-entry permit so that I can settle in the US later in 2014.

I have read much of the help collateral - one thing I'm unable to figure out is whether the permit lasts for two years outright or whether it is considered 'used' once you enter the US.

At Christmas 2013 I am visiting family in Australia and on the way back to Canada I am visiting San Francisco. Will this make my re-entry permit void?

Be careful on the I-131. Check the expiration date very carefully.

They only gave my wife a 1 year reeentry permit instead of the 2 year we needed. Now we have to file for a SB-1 visa just so she and the baby can stay with me until my overseas work assisgnment is finished.
