Affidavit of support question

Ok. I'm not this far yet in the process, but while gathering everything I'll need (now and eventually) I'm trying to determine what I'll need.

I read that the documentation that is required are:

1. Tax Returns for the previous three years

2. Letter from my company confirming my employment, length of employment, and wages.

3. letter from my bank/bank statements.

My question is mostly about the tax returns. Three years ago, I was laid off (two weeks after my ex and I split up) and was unemployed for nearly a year and a half. In order to keep from having to live on the streets, and be able to support my two kids, I took a pretty low-paying job that was actually only for a 9 month contract. I was unemployed again when that contract ended, and didn't find work again until the last half of last year. So this years tax return shows me making less than the poverty level last year.

This year, I'll be making much more than the 125% needed for the affidavit, but of course the only proof I'll have of that is my letter frommy employer stating my wages.

Also, if I need three years worth of tax returns, the two years prior to this years return, I'd filed jointly with my ex (even though we were separated) becuase it meant a bigger return for both of us doing it that way. So those returns will also show me making less (becuase of my long unemployment).

Does anyone know if the employment problems I had over the past few years, and the way I filed with my ex will affect the visa approval?

As long as you have that employer letter, it should be fine. I was a student for the past three years and had NO income on my last three years of tax returns, but the employer letter confirming this year's salary was enough so that we didn't have to have a co-sponsor at this stage. It may be different later as the AOS stage is harder, but for now you should be fine.

London does not have a specific requirment about tax returns and does not ask for them, some embassies do. You should supply as much of the information as possible as requested on the instructions on the I-134 itself.
