"Breaking news for readers! You're the first to know!

NEWS: Effective September 1, 2013, the DS-260 Immigrant Visa Electronic Application and the DS-261 (Choice of Address and Agent) will replace the paper-based DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration (parts I and II) and the DS-3032 (Choice of Address and Agent). Beneficiaries submitting new cases that arrive at the National Visa Center (NVC) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on or after September 1 will be instructed to complete the DS-260/261 in lieu of the DS-230/3032. Please see http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_5164.html for more information.

This is part of our move to "go paperless" and stop killing so many trees. I'm sure it will be confusing at first, but it's just like what the Non-Immigrant Visa Units are already doing, with their online applications. I'll keep you all posted as this develops. (Don't ask me anything yet; I'm still reading the instructions myself.)"

OMG Nigeria has gone EP. That is great. I need someone to petition now. LOL

This is such a blessing I know a few people now dealing with mailing originals out of Nigeria like I did and I got talked about and vilified for. Oh well. Glad to see they picked Nigeria. Cool to know.

Thanks for the update and its verified and posted on the Embassy website.

thank you so much Gowon, this will really work well for us. thank you

I'm so happy for others coming after us as it will make the process a whole lot easier and potentially faster but streamlined for sure.

I work in hospital IT and one of my primary task is system simplification.

So when I started the journey last year with the K1 I was appaled that they were still shuffling physical paperwork back and forth.

They still have more work to do as there are even more areas that electronic improvemens can be made but this is for sure a solid improvement.

An example, why are we asking for tax transcripts from the IRS and then sending it off to another government agency? They already have our SSN and can easily do a weekly data search and dump on SSN from IRS weekly.

Additionally there is no reason why we can't track our package like we do a UPS tracking. That way we don't have to guess which facility our petition is sitting in. We can also tell if it's #1,023 of 10,345 today and then tomorrow we can see if it's # 750 out of 12,439. Any one that's done a FOIA knows that thsi system already exists at USCIS and is being used onother programs such as FOIA.

I'll get off of my soapbox now and get back to my favorite pastime ClockWatch2.gifrofl.gif
