Hello all, I have a quick question that I hope someone can help with.. My wife and will be going to ukraine for a couple of weeks in october. Her AOS was completed last month and now has her green card since June. But her ukraine passport just expired in July. So we went the Ukrainian consulant in new york and she applied for whats called a "certificate for returning to Ukraine issued to nationals of Ukraine".. We were told that she needs to turn in the expired passport to get this certificate and can travel to ua with it, and that a passport is not required. Is all this accurate? Im concerned because I feel uncomfortable with her not having a passport to travel. It was too late to do a passport extension because it was already expired. So the documents we have to travel with in Oct: Her GC (with new last name), Marriage certificate, the ukrainian travel certificate (in maiden name) , and the ticket (maiden name).. is all this going to pass to go to Ukraine? Thank you for any info

Yes, seems to be fine according to the Ukrainian consulate in SF:

http://www.ukrainesf.com/consular/english/passdocs_en.html

It's issued to people if you lose your passport or if it's damaged or something else happens to it, and it's valid for entry to Ukraine. Keep in mind she will not be able to leave until she gets a new passport in Ukraine.

I hope you have planned to renew her Ukrainian passport on your return. You might need to bring some incentive money (bribe) to move it along. Also, bring along the marriage certificate so that any name change can be accommodated at the same time.

Have a nice visit!
