So the interview went brilliant, I don't know why I was so nervous, the Asian woman who sorted my paperwork was strict but luckily I had everything needed so she wasn't too harsh. The African American woman (who I think is the one everyone on here says is the best) for the interview was so supportive and approved me with no hassle.

As for the problem in the title, as we understand it I will need to get a social security number when I land which can take a couple of weeks, I then need to apply for a marriage certificate. Does this all have to be before the wedding itself or can we do the paperwork as and when it comes. The reason I ask is the plan is for me to fly in September which would be two weeks before the wedding so the paperwork would probably not be in time.

Any advice from anyone would be appreciated :)

You guys will need to register for a marriage LICENSE to get married. Some States allow you to get married as soon as you apply; in some others, you have to wait for a number of days before getting married. Check with your county clerk. You'll get your marriage CERTIFICATE after your marriage.

Most states don't require a SSN to get married - I didn't have it yet when I got married. Again, check with your county clerk. Good luck

Get a social security number just to get one, not because it is required for immigration applications or to get married.

Best to go and apply in your maiden name and get the number in the name exactly as as your I-94 is issued.Later when you get your EAD or greencard, you can go to Social Security, show youR new status, show your marriage certificate, and update the name and status at the same time. The number remains the same. It doesn't matter if your first SSN card is in the maiden name because you are going to update it in a couple of months.
