The head of al-Qaida has accused the US of overthrowing the former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, but also said he was responsible for his own downfall by for trying to appease Washington.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian, said Morsi, who was deposed in a coup on 3 July, was targeted for being an Islamist by a conspiracy of secularists, Coptic Christians, and Egypt's "Americanised" army.

But in his 15-minute internet audio message posted online on Friday, Zawahiri condemned Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood for having "tried its best to satisfy America and the secularists" by relinquishing jihad, usually defined by al-Qaida to mean armed struggle.

Zawahiri said: "Crusaders and secularists and the Americanised army have converged … with Gulf money and American plotting to topple Mohamed Morsi's government."

He also attacked the vice-president, Mohamed ElBaradei, the Nobel Laureate and former UN nuclear chief who was an opposition leader during Morsi's single year in office as the "envoy of American providence".

In Egypt, the army-installed government promised supporters of Morsi a safe exit from their protest camps on Saturday, and urged them to rejoin the political process.

Interior ministry spokesman Hany Abdel Latif said the protesters were being manipulated by leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood. "Your continued sit-ins have no legal or political use. You have a safe exit, you will be politically integrated," he said.

Thousands of Morsi supporters have gathered in two camps in Cairo demanding his reinstatement. The army had threatened to remove them by force.

But on Friday, following appeals from religious leaders as well as foreign governments to avoid a bloodbath, the interim government said it would blockade the camps but not storm them.

Latif said many people wanted to leave but they faced threats from the protest leaders. Anyone involved in crimes, including torture, killing and kidnapping, would face prosecution, he said.

Morsi became Egypt's first freely elected president on 16 June 2012, 16 months after a popular uprising toppled the former dictator Hosni Mubarak.

So what? Do thread titles always have to match the title of the article being quoted? Is this a rule now? I have read a suggestion by a mod that people avoid using inflammatory baiting titles. You are not suggesting this title fits that bill are you?

If you are posting a news or media article, use the actual title of the article as the title of the post.

the topic title not being word for word from the linked article has been a problem due to some using the title to make a "statement".

Baiting topics - if reported or if noticed by a moderator browsing the forum- will be changed to the actual title of the news or media

I report you for changing my topic title for no good reason than someone with nothing better to do reported it. That's inane. Use better judgement, my topic title didn't bait anyone, except perhaps Al-Qaida supporters and we have a lot of those about don't we?

Sure, some people do it on purpose. I didn't and nothing about my title, it's a win win for Al-Qaida could have jerked anyone's chain EXCEPT someone who was cruising the message board looking for discrepancies and incidentally not actually posting anything constructive. Surely doing that is more disruptive than a topic title that doesn't exactly match an article title? I call such activity trolling personally but apparently that's more acceptable.

You judiciously changed your answer when you realised that what you originally posted wasn't very politic. Tell me, do you think a poster that goes around looking for thread titles that don't match is more or less disruptive to this community than a poster who uses a thread title that doesn't match the article when that thread title is not offensive or used to bait other members?

That exchange looks familiar.

Just for the record, I just made an observation, and did not use the report button, or PM one of the mods.

Did I accuse you of reporting it? I did say that I thought that your observation was calculated to be disruptive. Try that one on for size.

Perhaps as you just returned to post here, you may have missed out on some recent history. May I suggest you check out site discussion for a few threads that might enlighten you? Edited by The Patriot

Nothing's changes, it's the same old bullshit. If you insult someone directly, that's bad, if you insult an entire community that's just an opinion.
