NEW YORK (AP) — As far as catfights go, this is a doozy.

Barbie, long the reigning queen in the doll world, has suddenly been thrust into the battle of her life.

But Barbie's competitors look nothing like the blue-eyed, blond-haired, long-legged fashion icon. And they don't have the same old standards of beauty as the aging diva either.

Monster High dolls, vampy teens that are patterned after the offspring of monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein, have neon pink and green streaks in their hair. They wear platform heels and mini-skirts with skulls on them. And the dolls that go by names like Draculaura and Ick Abbey Bominable are gaining on Barbie.

Monster High dolls are all the rage with little girls these days. My daughter keeps bugging me about wanting to have a few for her doll collection. I've been resisting thus far. Hope the hype eases soon.

I bet you lose that battle.

I stand a chance if the dolls lose popularity soon. If they don't, I'm toast.

My niece in Thailand is bugging me for an IPad. I'll probably end up caving on that as well. I told her I want to wait until the school semester is over there in October and see how her grades are. Hopefully get one semester of good grades out of the deal. The thing is like a months wages for a Thai worker with an average salary.

Should be a new one out around that time too.

Sounds like you hate your daughter. Or engaged in a war on dolls. I dunno. Take your pick.

Must be the war on dolls 'cause Lord knows I love my baby.

Good strategy. Good grades are important.

Well, of course the current model will drop in price. But you'd only get her the old one if you hate her. Your choice.

I'm trying to figure out why a Galaxy Tablet wouldn't be the same thing? Apparently it has to be an Ipad. (cursing Steve Jobs)

Similar situation with my wife. She got one. But she constantly uses it so it makes me feel a little better.
