Hello!

I'm translating my husband's birth certificate. Does it need to be in the same formatting as the original, or can I just list the question and then the answers?

Also, should I translate the name of the hospital?

Thank you for your help! This site has been so helpful!

Thanks,
Sarah

USCIS requires submissions of “certified translations for all foreign language documents.”

Certified translation only means that it has to have a line saying the person translating confirms he or she is capable to do it though. One can do it on their own as well. (Googling gives some samples of what it can look like too.)

I'm the beneficiary.

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.

The petitioner or the beneficiary can not translate the documents. It is not necessary to use a professional translator. If its going to the US (USCIS) it doesn't have to be notarized and if its going outside the US (the embassy or consulate) then it must be notarized. You can't do it yourself though.

If you do a search in VJ by words 'can petitioner translate documents' you will find tons of posts saying, yes, he/she can (example) and people saying they did it and it went fine. Also, in the instruction to I-130 there is no mention whatsoever that they're not allowed to do it.

Now i reread this stuff though i realize i forgot to put my address in the certification block. Lol.

I'm the beneficiary.
