Hello,

I will enter the US on a K-1. Can I keep my last name after we get married? Our son has both last names, without a "-" between the names. I believe it is less hassle and less spelling problems... We will live in WA.

Thanks Anja

with my experience in the US about name changes (as opposed to canada, where you have to go and file for a name change), all you have to do is show your marriage certificate to the dmv, banks, etc, and they'll change it right there. in the same way, you can keep your name exactly the way it is by not doing anything at all. the only thing is... you've got to decide which way YOU want it.

Just remember you will need to work and file taxes with that name. Just about every state verifies driver's license (DL) application info against the SSN record, so you will need to have your maiden name on your DL too.
