US Citizen retirering to the Philippines

My wife (a Filipina) and I (US Citizen) Currently live in the US. Our plan is to retire to the Philippines. My request is information about collecting my SSI benefits in the Philippines. What the requirements are, are there any restrictions to early retirement prior to reaching age 62.5. And finally; are there any requirements after SSI benefits begin? (ie.. Do I need to return to the US once a year?)

Any Information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you on the specifics of SSI, but I think your plan is a great idea. My fiance and I plan on doing the same thing. Once I retire from my job, we hope to have a condo ready for us in Philippines to take advantage of the warm weather and cost of living decrease while earning retirement pay. We also see it as a nice compromise as to who moves for who.

Nope no issues, the Philippines is OK. You can have your SSA check sent to a bank in the Phils if you so choose.

Here is a place to start with information: SSA Publication Page 5. & Page 12 -13 are the restriction countries.

Not sure what you mean by restrictions to early retirement.
