I wasn't too sure where to post this, but since I'm in Canada I thought this would be an okay spot!

I have my interview in August, and am planning to move to the US at the beginning of September. The plan was to bring half of my stuff with me, and then my fiancé (then hubby, eeee!!!! :) ) will go back and pick the rest up for me and bring it across.

I'm just wondering if anybody else went about bringing over their personal belongings like this. Would he need to bring a copy of my visa or ID, or anything? Would he need to declare the items belong to me? I'm just not too sure how it all works.

Thanks for you time!

You will need your EAD/AP card before you go back to Canada to get your things which can take 3-4 months after filing for AOS. Well you can go back to Canada, but they won't let you back into the USA without the Advance Parole. The K1 visa is a one time use visa. It doesn't allow you to move back and forth. You do have up to 10 years to bring all of your things, duty free, so you're able to store whatever you don't bring initially until you have your AP or green card.

Your 'future' husband of course can travel with your stuff without you but you need a form of unaccompanied goods (available from CBP online), a manifest of what he is bringing and likely a copy of your i-94 that shows your legal entry to the USA.

Hubby will also need a notarized letter allowing him to clear goods on your behalf in addition to Niki’s list.
