As I prepare to send the DS230 packet to NVC, I have a question on the marriage certificate. I know that either an original or certified copy of marriage certificate between the beneficiary and petitioner is required to be sent along with the packet. However, I am not sure if the same has to sent for the beneficary’s previous marriage. I am enclosing the divorce decree of the benefiicary’s previous marriage. Anyone has an input?

You just need the divorce decree for previous marriage. Every page and translated if in a foreign language. And it must be an original or a certified divorce decree.

ensure that you have a copy plus the original with everything

your questions are all answered on the state departments list of civil docs

you will get originals back at the interview as long as copies were provided as well

Thanks but I just found this info (para pasted below) from the Mumbai, India consulate website for Packet IV...any ppl interviewed in India have an input??

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE (original and a clear photocopy): Any applicant who has ever been married must provide an of the marriage certificate(s) for all marriages. Persons who married before 1955 must attempt to register their marriage. Failing this, they must submit affidavits on appropriate stamp paper sworn before a First Class Magistrate indicating the names of the bride and groom, plus the date and place of the marriage ceremony. Persons married in 1955 and later must submit a marriage registration certificate. Certificates issued by the appropriate authorities are acceptable if they are legally valid in India. If any of these documents were issued in a local language, you must provide a notarized English translation in addition to the original. If you and your spouse are applying for visas, you should submit an original and two clear photocopies of each certificate.
