Hi all,

Still in the USCIS stage right now, but I'm trying to get prepared to go through the NVC as quickly as possible once we get our NOA2. I'm the USC, we live in Taiwan, and we filed our I-130 with our address in Taiwan.

I found this guide that includes tips on how to get through the NVC faster by being proactive. It warns that it's not written for people filing from abroad, but apparently only because DCF is better (DCF is not available in Taiwan). Is there anything on that guide (printing barcodes, sending things in ahead of time, etc.) that I won't be able to do from Taiwan? Will I encounter any snags in the process due to them wanting me to prove intent to re-establish domicile?

Thanks so much for any help. The NVC stage seems even more complicated than assembling the I-130 package, and I'm a little overwhelmed.

2016-11-01: Informed in USCIS customer service call that they had no record of receiving our petition, but that it might still be languishing somewhere in fee waiver limbo

2016-11-01: Filed I-751 again, this time with payment check instead of fee waiver request (sent Priority Express)

2016-11-03: Date on I-797 Notice of Action (received 11/7)

2018-03-01 (approximate): We sent in a letter requesting that the interview be rescheduled to after June 8, due to combination of work and family travel plans

2018-03-07: Notice that our April 12 interviewed had been "canceled" (pending rescheduling, but the letter didn't actually say that; officer at InfoPass later explained that interviews aren't scheduled until five or six weeks before the interview date, so they were waiting until closer to our requested rescheduling window)

it is not more complicated, just different... once you get approved and confirm the file is at nvc.. you will give them your email addresses and all communication will be via email

you might want to read country specific interview threads to check on your domicile questions

Yeah, I'm aware of domicile being something I need to figure out for my local embassy. What I want to know is: will my process likely look the same as on that guide, or is there something I should expect to be different because I'm filing from abroad?

all of the requirements are basically the same

some embassies are sticklers for the domicile

all of your nvc requirements will still be in place.. I am pretty sure it all takes place at the embassy though

Thanks! But can't the NVC send RFEs before they forward the case to the embassy? That would seem to imply that they're making some kind of decisions at the NVC, right?

NVC doesn't issue RFEs, instead they issue a checklist letter

and

the checklist letter is issued via email (if'n you were successful in giving over email addresses at the first step of NVC contact)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
