Hi All,

I have been using Reliance service to call India. It cost's about 13cents a min. I was wondering what calling plans other use to call India and the prices you pay. Is there anything cheaper out there? Calling my wife on a regualr basis is costing me a fortune, and was looking for something that may be a little cheaper

Thanks

You can try to use Yahoo Instant Messenger, it is 10c a minute to India land line (she doesn't need internet access to receive your calls). And on Diwali, the calls were free! Hope they do a promotion like that again soon.

Otherwise, about 13c a minute is the best rate I have found (using WQN). I stopped using calling cards because they would cut out and I would lose a lot of money with connection charges. I spent a lot of money as well calling my husband in India but WQN has a lot of promo offers (like charge $50 and get 45 free minutes to India).

A lot of companies are starting to go packages of calls to India for like $30 a month. I haven't seen too much about that lately though.

Well, Sujeet uses pin #'s still to call India. We have tried searching different sites and options but we never find one better than what he uses at www.callnation.com, it turns out to be about 11 cents/minute. He calls home once or twice a week.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Wow,

That's a lot of money per minute. I've been using this website

ALLPREPAIDONLINE.COM, They have the best minute rates to anywhere in the world, I don't think they are affliated with any card in particular but once you enter The country you want to call, it will show you a list of the best Per minute rate. The other thing I like about them, some cards tell you " you have $3 remaining, or let say 50 minutes, but after about 20 or 30 minutes or so you get this nasty warning" 1 minutes remaining" I called to complain and they say the fees that are associated with the card are deducted from minute use.

Their latest card is 4.5cent/per minute to India

I also used the same card to call my wife in Ireland and Germany, Call to those European countries were unlimited talk time. Don't tell me how they do it, probably some VOIP set up

By the way for folks who have family or friends in overseas, there's this website call Futurephone.com, It' s some early promo but you can call overseas for free, Too bad india is not on the list.

The only thing you have to do on your 1st purchase, someone from the company will call you to verify the address on the credit card, It's part of their Fraud protection to make sure you are the rightful card owner.

This is by no far an endorsement, I don't work for them just volunteering some infomation from personal experience.

Wow, I pay that much to call Kumar's mobile in Nepal, there has to be a cheaper option to India, especially if you are calling a land line... I have had lots of people recommend Skype, though for me it isn't any better than prepaid cards (the best one I have found locally(NYC phone card) is also 11 cents per minute). I remember they had some promotion a while back where one weekend you could call India for free.
