May i kindly ask those who were married here in the philippines if there are any requirements to get the "legal capacity to marry"?

Hi marcgrace,yes , it's one of the requirements if the foreigner applies for marriage license here in PI.. The USC can obtain that at USEM in manila or US consular office in cebu.. It is like a certificate as proof that they are free to marry.

yes i know that is one of the requirements, its just weird since i already got a CENOMAR here in the philippines, stating that i have never been married or married. Yet the civil registrar said i still need to get the "legal capacity to marry" considering im a dual citizen (US/Filpino).

does anyone know if i need to bring any id's or what not in getting the legal capacity to marry?

i cant bring my US passport the moment since its still under renewal process

is there any way i can go even without my US Passport to get the legal capacity to marry!

since its saying i need to bring my passport with me. that would be impossible since its still under renewal, i wonder if i can still go and get the legal capacity to marry even if i still dont have my US passport.,

My husband and I got married last July 17, 2012 here in the Philippines. The USC, or your husband-to-be, just need to bring his passport and one valid ID. If divorced or widowed, he got to have a supporting documents that the marriage has been dissolved. His presence, of course is required. Tell him to bring his birth certificate too. Then you have to set a schedule online on the US embassy website for an appointment to get the certificate of legal capacity to marry.

im the petitioner yet my US passport is still in the renewal process. So i guess i have to wait for it then? or can i just use my Filipino passport since im dual? or do they need to see your US passport in order for them to give you the capacity to marry?

anyways does the fiance have to go to the embassy with you? coz from what i read on the website, u can just go there alone and get it yourself..

U.S. citizens must leave and enter the U.S.A with a U.S. passport.

Plus I would bet the embassy would want proof of U.S citizenship for them to issue the legal capacity to marry you are seeking. Only the USC needs to go to the embassy to get the legal capacity to marry.
