This is my third encounter with Texas SSN center and I am so frustrated. I came to US on K-1 and got married within 90 days and applied for AOS shortly after my I-94 expired. I received my EAD and AP last week and thought I am good to go...not quite the story.

Texas is not quite a place you are most comfortable with if you don't have a car and a DL ( so different from Toronto or even Ottawa where I moved from). My driving licence is only good for 3 months after I move here so what I do all day is staying at home :-(.

Anyway, I applied for SSN within 3 months after I came here and got it. Second time I went to SSN center to change my name, I got turned away due to expired I-94 (#######). The lady told me wait till I receive my EAD, which is the reason why I went up there again today! Stupid me did not go with an original marriage certificate which has been filed with my immigration, so I only took a photocopy...so guess what?! Another waste of time!

My second destination is DMV, I did not get much hope for getting my DL figuring they prob need my MC, too. So I just walked in hoping to get more accurate information from them. ( I tried to call DMV, and it was some horrifying experience. They put you on hold for 20+ mins and More. I never made it though) The guy took my 2 pieces of residency proof, SSN ( still in Maiden name), Canadian DL and EAD. Things went great until they verified my EAD. I even got my pictures taken and stuff. So what happened is that he said everything he tried to verify my info, no result is showing. He twirled his computer so I could see the screen...it says PENDING. He said he could send my information to Austin, Texas to verify and I should get a letter from them a week from now. Plus I need to go to DMV again with that letter to apply again. Bummer.

So anyone knows what is going on with my status? Seems like it happens to quite a few people here and I want to know how you guys solve it..( or never get it solved).

Any input is appreciated!!!

I have recently gone through the same procedure here in Oklahoma; this is how it worked here:

When you get your EAD, wait for a bit (I waited approx. two weeks) in order for them to update your status in the computer system. I then went to the Social Security Office to get my name changed (from my maiden to my married name) on my Social Security Card. I got my new card in the mail after 2.5 weeks. After having my new Social Security Card, I went to the DMV, showed them my Social Security Card, passport and EAD and got my permit. I asked them if they wanted to see my Marriage Certificate, but they said they don't as long as my name matches on the EAD and the Social Security Card.

Good luck to you! Just make sure all of your documents are updated and be patient.
