Package 3 timing from Melbourne

Hi all,

I just received my package 3 and I'm 1.5 weeks into a 2 month trip to America visiting my fiance. I don't really want to leave and go back to Australia early because we have some things planned here and I only just arrived. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on the timing of things for me? Especially people from Melbourne, because reading around here it seems things vary from place to place a lot.

I'm not in a rush because we don't have a wedding date set or anything like that, I'm most concerned by the line "Please note that you must be interviewed and have your visa issued within the four-month validity of your petition." on the paperwork they sent. Am I risking it if I wait another 7 weeks before returning home?

Specific questions: Do I need the medical and the police check to be included when I send package 3 in to Sydney? Or do I only need them with me at my interview? Does anyone have experience with the doctor in Melbourne? How long does it take to get an appointment and then how long to get the results back? Same with the police check? And I'm sure it varies from person to person, but how long from when you sent package 3 til your appointment date?

Sorry for all the questions, any help anyone could give would be really appreciated!

As long as you get the interview scheduled before the 4 month deadline you are fine.

BTW the embassy can extend that time frame up to a year (4 months at a time), so if needed contact the embassy and get it extended.

Thanks for that Hank, that relieves a bit of the pressure. As far as you know does that rule apply to all embassies? I'm having a hard time reading all the posts here and working out how much things differ from country to country.

Also, does anybody know where I find out what the date they're taking the 4 months from? Is it on the NOA2 or elsewhere? Thanks!
