Wanted to ask a quick question. Just looking for straight forward answers here.....

I am under the impression that if you go to the

Philippines you are stamped a 21 day visa but you have to have a ticket saying you are leaving the country within 21 days; is that correct?

If so can you buy a ticket leaving, say Cebu and going to Kuala Lumpur (which gives Americans

a 3 month stay for fun/business with no required Visa) that leaves on that 21st day will they allow you into the country?

Just wanting to know how that works. Thank you

so much.

I have never been asked by the PI immigration for a ticket, but it has happened. It's usually certain airlines that want to see the ticket before you leave for the PI as tbey can get fined. It can be a ticket anywhere out of the PI.

Fly to Malaysia in the morning and then back to the PI later that same afternoon and the 21 days start over. Enjoy...

Another possibility is obtaining the visitor visa extension before departure from the nearest Philippine Consulate General office. More details & links are given http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/406716-visa-to-enter-philippians/ in post #13 & following. This is likely the more convenient & thrifty alternative worth doing, if time permits. A copy of the e-ticket/itinerary is needed when you send in the application. The return date (if R/T) is not important, as others have alluded to.

Yes, 21 days on entering, can be extended by going to National Bureau of Immigration in Intramurous, a bit of a pain in the butt, but wasn't hard. I think it cost me 1000 pesos to extend my visa. It took several hours after dropping it off in the morning, so we bummed around, found some food etc. They asked how many days I wanted it extended, seems as if I could have told them 3 months and they might have done it.

Or get an extended visa before you go, if you have a Philippine consulate or embassy near you, or you can do it by mail if you have enough time.

Or yes, leaving the country and re-entering works fine too, I did that one time because I had a trip in the middle of my month-long stay.

It sounds like you can even apply right there at NAIA, but I wasn't aware of that, but that would be the smartest way if it's true.

They dont really check when you are leaving as long as you have a return ticket. Example, i bought a roundtrip flight but my return was 6 months out. So i came to the philippines got my 21 day stamp, during that time i extended my visa at the BI office and got 90 days i think additional

Doing it at the airport on arrival is the easiest and cheapest bet. Not sure of the place you did that at, where is that at?

I did it once after the 21 days expired and it wasn't a problem, just a few more peso's.. Cost right around $100.

Quick answer, YES.

The country is basically an island, hence no mini-bus visa runs to the nearest land border. You have fly out and fly back in agian.

Some of the well known strategies used for tourists is, applying in advance for a 59 day visa through your the consulate office covering your state, then renewing your visa through your hotel, travel agency, or by going yourself to the BI, and repeating the process up to one year.

Buying a RT ticket with an open return, or a return of greater than 21 days (including the date you arrive) and then purchasing a "burner" one way cheapie ticket to show on departure or arrival (ex: Cebu Pacific, AirAsia) to Honkers or Sillypore with intent to forgo that ticket in lieu of seeing what happens and then extending your visa on arrival locally if you want to stay.

Purchasing a full fare refundable ticket departing RP to anywhere within the span of your visa, then cancelling it at full refund.

Best to be honest. Even if others are not.

Please clarify this I dont know this means ? ( Well, in our case, hubby was already retired and stayed in the Philippines for about 18 months at one time, so he did not buy a roundtrip ticket since he is not certain when he will go back to US..After we got married no more extension problem at all coz he has Balikbayan stamp on his passport ) ..thanks and I mean the bBalikbayan stamp on the passport :-)

The BB stamp on his passport or a stay in the Philippines for a year was because i always meet him in another country, stay there for couple of days, then we fly back to the Philippines together, so basically that's how he got that stamp for FREE..
