Green Card Approval to Card on Hand (How Long?)

Hi, We just had our interview yesterday and my wife was approved for a conditional green card. The IO took her EAD, but gave us a letter of approval. My wife is in the process of looking for a job. Is the letter enough to show the potential employer that she can work. If not, how long we can get the green card on hand? I hope it is less than what they say. 60 days... sigh...

Congratulations on your successful interview! good.gif

Unfortunately, I do not believe that an approval letter is enough to start working.

Typically, it takes less than a month to receive a green card. My wife and stepdaughter received theirs in about 3 weeks. USCIS will tell you 60 days...to be safe. biggrin.png

I hope this helps you some. Again, congratulations!

From the time her online status is changed to "post decision activity" it usually only takes about 1-2 weeks to receive the green card in the mail. The letter should be enough to show an employer she is eligible to work when applying for jobs (if they ask for proof). However she must have the green card in hand to show the employer on the day she starts working (when she fills in the I-9 form).

Quick question? She could continue working using her EAD whilst she waits for her GC to come in the mail?

Or am I mistaken?

You mean she started a job when she had her EAD and wants to know if she can continue working? Yes she can.

The date on the green card (when it arrives) will be the date she was approved. So her ability to work isn't interrupted. There is just a short gap between having the interview (when the EAD was taken away) and when she receives the green card when she doesn't actually have an EAD or GC in hand to prove she can work. No big deal unless she needs to start an new job and fill in an I-9 during that time.
