So Heart Broken :(

Ever since the Earthquake that hit Haiti 3 years ago, my fiance was trampled on and fell and hit his left eye on a rock. And since then his eye has been irritating him. At the time of the earthquake he was living with his grandmother and she made a special herb medicine to see if the swelling in his eyes would go down, but nothing happened. His eye became worst; and when his dad could (because his dad lives in Guadeloupe),he would send money to my fiance to go see a doctor about his eye and every doctor that he would go to gave him pills to prevent his eye from getting worst, and to stop hurting, but it didnt work. Some doctors told him he needed to wear glasses and gave him eye drops but nothing still worked. Then last year his aunts here in America and his father sent him enough money to go to Dominican Republic and see a doctor there about his eye. When he got there they said that he would need surgery on his left eye and if he didnt have surgery he would eventually go blind. My heart is just broken.... I even call my congressman. And he did what he could today he told me USCIS said I still have to wait another 6months to get approved

Perhaps this might qualify as an urgent medical situation, and get an expedite? If the only way he can save his eye, is to come to the US, then they might grant it to you. You'd have to get documentation from a doctor about his condition (I assume) as well as why he can't get surgery in Haiti (would he be covered under your health insurance, and can't afford otherwise...for example? There are no trained specialists in Haiti/DR that can perform the surgery?).

Somebody else could probably speak to what USCIS considers an urgent medical necessity, and how to get this.

doctors without borders show up in Haiti on some schedule, you should find the schedule and make the arrangements.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I love Haiti and all but I don't believe they are that specialized especially in a situation like this. My mother whose a native of Haiti doesn't believe they are capablr.of doing it as well. If my fiance was to do it in Haiti he would have to pay for bus from Haiti to Dr. Pay to stay at a hotel, to buy something to eat and to pay for the surgery. I'm not a multimillionaire and neither is his father. Thats alot. Most of his family lives here and they don't want him doing it on DR as well because they believe that America is more advance in technology and believe here in the US is the best place for him to have surgery on his eye.

Thank you and I will definitely do that.

try to ask for service request (expedite) due to medical issue or financial hardship. hopefully they will honor it!!! goodluck

I don't know anything about that. And i've never heard anything about that either.

It can be done in Haiti. You just need the right doctor. And it'll probably cost less than going to the DR. I grew up in Haiti and I know what I'm talking about. You can message me if you want more information on some great eye surgeons!! Or if you want, look up Dr. Bernard Beauboeuf (the best surgeon in Haiti) and also Theodore Crevecoeur (one of the best eye doctors.) Together, they'll do a VERY good job...Going overseas for surgery is not always the best answer...

Or you can try an expedite. But I'm sure him not having insurance in the US will be more expensive than doing it in Haiti...

Oh he's definitely not dead!! He's a family friend and he's done literally all the surgeries in our family. He lost his main residence during the earthquake; maybe that's why people think he died... I will send you his number by message soon :) Edited by mtcmk1
