In the South, a shopping cart is very commonly referred to as a buggy. Weird I know, but it's what I grew up with. The South has a lot of "isms" that are just too darn funny! When I went through the Logan Int'l Airport in Boston, I was looked at, stared at, asked to repeat things (I think they just wanted to hear my southern accent ;) ) several times. Kinda like being in a foreign country I suppose.

Anyone want to learn "Southernese"?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

 This lil Piggy... exactly... Sadly I know I would also make fun of you for carriage! I've never heard that but it's hilarious!

It's not a cart. It's not a carriage. It's a trolley!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I'm guilty of using this term as a greeting. I admit it.

There are some UK terms that "wrankle" me like "puffing a **."

Actually most Uker's who smoke say "havin' a **". I haven't heard anyone say "puffing a **" for about 20 years. But I'm from the south, maybe they do in the Northern areas.

And yes, it is "rankle". Even in the UK.... :P

:no::no::no:

and more often than not, it's 'tab' not '**' tho '**' is still used.

but yeah, never heard 'puffin a **' in the years I lived there....

One of the strangest things I had to get used to is the calling of a bathroom 'the toilet' just sounds...oh I dunno!

We went to a Chinese in Durham and I asked the woman where the bathroom was...she was like '#######? you no shower here'

I have been living in the South now for 18 months. At my job everyone has to pass a speech test to see if you pronouce your words correctly.

I am like, give me a break. You have to take this test every three months, plus a language test, and typing.

If you dont pass you dont get promoted. Which means no raise. I cant believe they are making Southerns take a speech test when they all have a accent.

They are trying to tell me I say fridee instead of friday. Pin instead of pen. Git instead of get. I have never spoke like that in my life. They told me they can tell a big difference in this months speech score from the test I took 3 months ago. They told me that it is a sign of intelligence when you pick up another accent that fast.

I told them for the record. I do not say fridee, or pin, or git......... :P

This is coming from someone thats says "how ya'll doing today" Go figure.
