Hello.

I am a green card holder right now, waiting for citizenship probably around December this year. I have a fiance in the Philippines, whom I've been with for 5 years, and my question is it okay for me to get married in November this year (civil wedding in the Philippines), before my interview and oath taking as a US citizen? Or do I need to wait until AFTER my oathtaking? Won't it jeopardize my citizenship if they found out that I've just gotten married recently, and won't it affect his petition if his interviewer finds out that we just got married one to two months before I became a citizen?

I already spoke to a veteran immigration lawyer and he told me I could "get married anytime", so long as I file for the IR-1 visa AFTER my citizenship since the processing for him to come here would only take 6-8 months. I actually have started planning my homecoming and wedding for November..but reading several articles make me worried. I'm just afraid that getting married right before citizenship would create a problem for him coming here.

Any expert advice? Would appreciate them so much!

The lawyer is right. You can get married anytime, it won't affect your upcoming citizenship. After you get your naturalization certificate, you can file i-130 for your spouse.

Your spouse will be under the CR1 category. He will immigrate within (more or less) a year (given there are no documentation, medical exam and interview issues).
