I have a green card which expires later this month. I have had my N400 interview and am waiting to be notified of my oath ceremony. I have a need to travel to Canada at the end of June, but have heard it may be up to 4 months before a ceremony is scheduled. Is there any way to have an expedited ceremony or any travel document that will allow me to make this trip?

This is my exact question as well with a caveat.... My wife was approved for her naturalization and we have a planned trip. The problem is her oath ceremony is 6 days before the trip. I see that they take her GC at the oath so is there a travel document to travel or a way to get the passport in 3 business days?

You can actually have your passport the same day. It is a bit pricey but it's not immposible.

Problem is they stated they probably won't have the oath before they leave to Canada. You will not be able to expedite the Oath Ceremony, the best you could do is postpone it and then you will go back in the system and it could be hell knows how long before you get another Oath Ceremony date. So that is always the worst case option.

You could try and just re-new your GC. Costly maybe, but not even sure if you would get that in time. And pretty sure you will have issues travelling on an expired GC. Don't know of any travel doc's you could have (like the AP doc you got when waiting for the CG to arrive).

You may luck out and have the ceremony before and like what was mentioned, you can then do the expedited passport with proof of travel. Before the Oath Ceremony though, you are kind of in Limbo with the expired GC.

The best course is always when applying for the N-400 to make sure you have no trips what so ever booked for a number of months. Oath Ceremonies can take a month or many months. You will never know what yours will be. It's always best to at least have no travel plans after starting the N-400 until you actually get your Oath Date set. Then make the plans for after that date...
