The good news is we have just been approved NOA2.

What I'm worrying about now is the affidavit of support. My American fiancé is on a low income. I retire in September from the British fire service and will be bringing a substantial lump sum of money and pension to the USA with me although from what I have read this won't help with the affidavit.

My question is... Is my fiancé able to use her Father as a co sponsor as he is more than able to afford it? Does anyone have experience of this?

Thank you in advance for your replies :)

A substantial sum of money would get you through the embassy in London without an I -134. To some people "substantial" would be $2000 and to others it would be over $100,000 so it's hard to know what you have but since you are retiring I suspect it's a well over what London would require for you to self-sponsor on the K1. Bring proof of your financial assets to the interview. There is no set figure, so dont ask. It's a judgement call by the officer. I've seen reports of $40-$50k approved. Another more recent had $8k and a stream of income that would continue. For more information read this. http://london.usembassy.gov/faffidavit.html

For your greencard, the rules are stricter but a pension is something that continues in the US if you are actutally receiving it at the time. A future pension, no. Your cash assets can be counted too. Read the instructions for the I-864 about how to use your source of income and assets and the documentation that is required. It's pretty detailed to lay it out for them.
