Hi everyone,

I just managed to book an appointment with Dr. Seiden for my medical examination. The very nice secretary told me that my immunization records MUST HAVE dates of when I got my shots in the past. I can't find my old yellow immunization card so I got a copy from Toronto Public Health but it doesn't list the dates of when I got each and every shot.

Has anyone had this problem before??

You only need to show dates of immunizations that you don't have proof you're immune to. If you had the bloodwork done to show you're immune that is supposed to be enough. The dates are for those you can't prove you're immune to. That s my understanding anyway.

at least for mumps. It wears off. You'd have to get an MMR vaccine though because I don't' think they make just a mumps vaccination.

Just booked an appointment to update my vaccinations. Taking so many days off...I'm surprised the doctors I work for aren't too pissed at me.

Can anyone give me advice on how to get my immunization records? My mom doesn't have them and I don't have access to my old files. :\ All I know is that I didn't have all of my childhood ones because I had an allergy to one of them, and I started homeschooling at age 11 so I did not have any that I would have had at school beyond that point.

I noticed people mentioning a blood test. Would this be able to supplement the one the medical exam would require?

Yes you can ask your doctor to have you blood tested to see if you carry immunity. That's what I did for most of mine as I inquired about my records and they don't keep them that long. Especially if you're not living in that province any longer.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to do that, then. Having a severe phobia of needles and blood doesn't make this process easy. Lol.

My daughter has a severe needle phobia as well (she used to require 2 nurses to give her needles, 1 to hold her down).

You will need your blood titre test to prove immunity if you don’t have your records and any needles they require.

She was lucky and only needed one immunization for the move because we’d gotten some prior for travel.

Please be aware that you will also need a blood test at the medical appointment. I believe they use it to test for various VDs.

I wanted to warn you so you could be emotionally prepared for it.

Good luck!

Aw, thank you! I'm glad your daughter managed to get through it, though feel bad for her, as well. It's certainly not fun!

My Fiance had planned to visit for the medical so he could help me through it, but sadly won't have enough days off to do it for the extra blood test and shots. :\ I haven't had an immunization since I was maybe 10 or younger, so I figure there are probably a lot I'll need. Going to bring some headphones and music to try and take my mind off it!

Thanks again. :)

if you need some immunizations get them done before the medical as they will cost a lot to get them done at the medical...

these are the ones you need if you are between the ages of 18 to 64..

if you are not sure what you have or not get our doctor to get the blood titre test done for you..

If you've had chicken pox you won't need that

I would get an MMR and dTap boosters.

Get your dr to order you a blood test for the varicella. Takes them all of 15 seconds to draw the blood. You can do it when you do your yearly physical too.
