I am sure that this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything by searching the archives--so here goes: I can add Joan to my health insurance at work once we are married, but is there any way to get coverage for her between her arrival and our wedding?

It would be very expensive to try to buy a third party health care. Depending on the employer if they approve domestic partnerships you can add her sooner. If not, I'd personally wait until you are married.

01/15/12 - Sent Aya a message on a dating site
03/10/12 - We became "exclusive"
03/15/12 - We told each other "I love you"
08/17/12 - 2 week trip to the Philippines to be with her
08/27/12 - I asked her to marry me (in Cebuano), she cried and said yes
09/02/12 - I came back to the USA

Started on the paperwork

09/25/12 - Saw on USPS that the package was delivered in Texas

Get married as soon as you can so you could add her to your insurance. Once married, you could add her anytime

I almost always buy insurance whenever I travel. Maybe you could just purchase that instead since your just looking for a short

term coverage. It has health coverage etc.

I usually buy from here: http://www.bluecross.com.ph/

Just click on the upper right that says Buy travelsafe insurance and choose the kind of coverage you want.

This is a very good company by the way. The Schengen states recognize this insurance company as they require travel insurance from Filipinos who wants to visit the Schengen countries.

This was a couple of years ago, but I bought for my then-fiancee a short duration "inbound immigrant" medical policy from sevencorners.com. The coverage period started on the day we traveled from Phils. to USA and ended a couple of months after that. Not knowing how long it'd take to get things all squared away with my employer's insurance, I probably overspent on a too-long coverage period. I had guessed that it might take a month or two to get things settled, but it turned out to be a lot quicker than that. Anyway, the sevencorners policy worked out fine. It was easy to buy online, provided the desired peace of mind, and we were glad not to have needed to use it.
