I would like to know if any other Australians have had trouble in obtaining a Federal Police clearance....I submitted my first application in Feb 2013 via Aust Post never recieved a receipt acknowledgement or any response for a status report, sent a second application via email in early April and evan enlisted the help of the Qld police and still nothing have now enlisted the help of local MP...Yet my British police clearance no problem had Certificate within the ten days they prescribe....I am getting very cocerned at the way our Fedral police is treating it's honest citizens.

Country specific issue moved to regional forums for that country.

Are you living in Queensland right now, or are you outside Australia?

If you are living in Queensland you are supposed to get your police clearance through the Queensland police, not through the AFP.

If you are outside Australia, then it is through the AFP.

Yes I am still In Queensland there is no rules saying you have to go through our state police although I enlisted their help in tracing my applications and even thei help did not get a response. However as of yesterday my local Member of Parliment did get a response from them...That it is now being processed...Thankyou for your advice.

Hi Bryane, I don't know if it's different in other states, but for us in Victoria we have to go through the State rather than Federal police and that has been pretty straightforward and quick for everyone I've heard of (within two weeks). My understanding was the same as Lainie's, i.e. that you only go through the AFP if you don't live in Australia. But I'm not an expert on this so I could be wrong, or it might be different in Queensland.

I do remember at least one person posting here who was living in South Africa and trying to get her certificate from the AFP, and apparently they took a very long time for her too. She ended up being able to talk to them by phone and it got worked out in the end, but she did have a few months' wait.

Bryane,

Go to your local police station to do a Police Clearance. QLD'ers don't go through the AFP. You may want to call ahead to see whether you need an appointment.
