My husband who is an American citizen is trying to get me to the USA and we are still a little confused on the process. We now understand we need to apply for the CR-1 but have also noticed a form I-485. Also I am planning to visit for 4 1/2 months, can I be there while it is being processed and how long does the process normally take? I live in Canada so do I have to go to the American embassy here in Canada or while I am in the united states can I go someone there? One last question would be where do we send the I-130. We have looked but it all seems confusing to us. Thanks so much!

There are guides at the top of the page. Start here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

You can visit your spouse but you cannot move until you have your visa. My husband filed for us in September and we are hoping I can move down in Jul. Each case is different but you can count on it taking approx 9 months.

Canadians spouses are interview at the Consulate in Montréal.

There are the instructions in the guide for what you need as well as instructions for each form on the USCIS website. The instructions will tell you where to mail them.
