hello,

i have a quick question. I am a dual US/Can citizen. I recently got married to a canadian. Im currently living in Detroit and shes in windsor, border cities. I have to apply for her and my job starts in the US in the summer. Due to the close proximity however, I was thinking of moving to canada and applying for her from Canada and commuting to work everyday. Basically i would be a DCF case but since its not allowed ill have to go through the chicago lockbox. My question is that since i will be applying from canada, do i have to show that i have been living there for some time, as i will probably move in may. secondly, will the process be faster if i stayed in the US and applied for her from there or if I moved to canada and applied from Canada?

One more question, I have been a student for the past number of years so all my tax returns have been joint with my parents. My first job will start this summer. Previously i have had 0 income for the past 3 years. Now when it comes to showing that you have income and showing the past 3 tax returns I have basically nothing to show. I do have proof that i have a job starting in July which is above the requirement. Can they take that as the sponsor requirement or will i have to get another sponsor for this part.

Please advise.

You would have to provide proof of domicile at the interview and Montreal is quite hard on domicile proof.

You can find answers for the domicile part in the Canada section of these forums.

Omg.. reading fail!! HAHAHAH you know theres no DCF. /facepalm SORRY! blush.gif

on the support issue: is the job in July a permanent job? Can they give you a notarized letter of employment offer? The NVC does look at current info and pay more than previous. However it's a good idea to line up a joint sponsor just in case they ask for it. good.gif

yes the job is a permanent job with a contract of 3 years. I'm in the medical field so i'm starting residency after medical school which is for 3 years. I'm pretty sure they can provide me with some paperwork showing that I will start in July. I'm just worried that if they ask me for my past 3 tax returns, i dont really have any income on them since i have been studying. If i have to get a sponsor, then i will have to bug one of my relatives or friends which im kind of trying to avoid.

also, in terms of this whole domicie issue, if i move to canada, it will be just temporary until my wife gets approved. In that case, what will i need to show that i'm planning on returning to the US. will a job contract be enough? what exactly do they want in that sense.

A job contract is not enough. There is a pinned topic in the Canada thread on domicile.
