Hi everyone:

Please help me answer following ?'s:

1)How long is immigrant visa (IR-5) valid for from date of issue? Does it matter when you leave Vietnam, closer to expired date is OK or not for this type of visa?

2)When to schedule a medical exam? is it before interview date, what info you need to bring to exam? or you just tell them your NVC case #? Please provide address of place to get medical exam in HCM, and how much does it cost?

3)What civil docs need to be sent from my Dad in Vietnam to me to be submitted to NVC?

Thanks all!

The visa is valid for 6months prior to your interview . I think it's dosent matter if you leave close to expiration date as long it's dosent expire . If not you have to contact consulate to reissue the visa

You can schedule medical examination when you have your interview letter . You need to bring your interview letter on the date of your medical examination . The cost is 130 . I saw people do medical examination week before their interview . You can go to cho ray or iom.

Here is the link for the consulate you can find all your info :http://hochiminh.usconsulate.gov/immigrant-visas.html

Your dad might need your recent tax , letter employment , pay stub from you , AOS support , police certificate . I don't know what you send in but when you receive interview letter they will send list what they have and what you need to bring on the date of the interview .

Good luck

Thank you for your response :)

AOS package and IV package (tax returns, letter of employment, pay stubs, police cert, birth cert, etc.) I'm planning to send to NVC to complete Visa process, do I have to resend those same docs to my Dad again? I'm confused because NVC will have all required docs already and NVC will forward the case to HCM. Why he needs to have those again when I already sent to NVC.

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Well when you receive interview appoiment they will have list of documents that they needed . Just wait until that times right now you need to complete the case first . NVC does have everything you submitted and they will forward them to consulate. My friends told me that you just brings these documents in case if they don't have on file . You always wanted to be safe if you don't have it they might give you blue slip to come back . Also, please write your case number on every documents you submitted to NVC then staple everything together . Good luck !
