So I have a friend's husband acting as co-sponsor and she said she read in the I-864 instructions that the co-sponsor needs to prove citizenship with a birth certificate.

Is this true? is a copy acceptable or like the others the original needed?

I didn't read it on our little breakdown page so I thought I would check

I have this as what we need for the co-sponsor...am I missing anything, ie the birth cert.

Thanks from anyone who has done the co-sponsor thing!

Photocopy of their US born birth certificate will do if it has certification on it that shows up in the photocopy. That would be something from the county where it was registered saying it is a true copy of the records, a stamp, or seal, or embossing. Or a photocopy of the biometric page of their US passport.

It also could be a naturalization certificate or greencard if they weren't born in the US. The sponsor has to be a legal US resident, so that's why the proof is needed. They already have proof that the spouse is a citizen, so only joint sponsors need to include the proof.
