Hi All,

I was preparing all the docs required for NVC/visa interview and stuck with Police Certificate (PC). I got my Police Certificate from Local area passport office, but one of my friend told me that i ALSO need another police certificate from POLICE COMMISSIONER ( HEAD OF POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE). Is this true?. Do i need to have both of them?

I would really appreciate your response.

Thanks.

Since this question is specific to India, I suggest you post future questions related to India in regional India forum, you'll get many more responses. Here is a link to India forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/149-india/

Regarding your question, as far as I know, you only need a PCC from passport office. I've not gone through NVC process yet. But the DSP office near our town refused to give us a police clearance certificate saying that the PCC from passport office is the only thing we need and that they no longer give out PCC. At this point, I've no choice but to send just the PCC from passport office and the copy of pcc stamp in passport.

Also, if you look at the link below from US Consulate in Bombay, I don't see any mention of getting PCC from DSP office. But at the same time, I am not sure how accurate the information in this link is.

Champi is correct.

What you need is a passport clearance certificate.

Use this website to make your appointment http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/pccOnlineApp

Best to start early on this as it usually takes 1 month to receive.

I am the petitioner.

Does it really take 1 full month or more time to get PCC. My husband submitted police clearance certificate from police station. Now NVC is asking for certificate from passport office. His interview is in 1.5 month, but he is working in different state of India for time being. Can he submit that PCC form online or he has to submit it in person? If anyone knows about PCC process from passport office, please let me know.

Hi,

Yes this is what we did too. Although the NVC will retain the passport office PCC and will return the local police PCC at the time of the interview. The Local police PCC can be obtained by going to the commissioner of police office. Atleast that's how you get it in bangalore, in other cities the procedure may be different. It does not take long (maximum maybe ten days). If you are from Bangalore, I can tell you exactly what to do, but if not then I am not sure how it works in other cities, perhaps the same procedure...but I would start with going to the commissioner of police in your city and checking it out.
