Hi all -

My wife completed her ASO and has her conditional GC in hand ! whoo hooo.

we are thinking of taking a vacation to mexico over summer and i have some question on how all that works since she can re-enter.

first she would have to get a visa to mexico since she's not a US citizen correct? i wanted to double check . secondly at re-entry to US does she just user her green card to show proof? her GC shows my last name that we changed at interview but her passport has her maiden name. do we need to take marriage license to show proof of any sort? i wanted to be sure before we make plans if this is gonna complicate anything.

thanks !

Bilateral agreements allow all US green card holders regardless of nationality to use the green card by itself to enter visa-free to Mexico and Canada.

Legal documentation of name change is good to have on you. This is a common scenario, so no need to worry about it.

US LPRs can travel to Mexico and Canada without a visa (it's a special agreement). She she just needs her passport, GC, and you can bring a copy of the marriage certificate as proof of name change (for the different names on documents). Have fun!

my GC shows my married name but my passport is still in my maiden name. I carried my marriage certificate with me just in case, but had no issues at POE. they didn't even question it. besides, I'm pretty sure their records have maiden and married names listed.

one more question guys !

since i'll be buying tickets soon, i would have my wife's maiden name on the ticket since that what she has in her passport correct? she won't be able to enter with just the GC in hand as the rules changed few years back for at least US citizens who enter mexico/canada.
