Hyderabad: At least 15 people have been killed and 50 injured in three bomb blasts in a busy commercial area of Hyderabad this evening.

Sources in the Home Ministry say the explosions in Dilsukhnagar, which began just after 7 pm, were a terror strike by "a well-trained" group which timed the explosions to cause the maximum damage. Intelligence agencies had reportedly not picked up any alerts of a possible attack in Hyderabad.

The explosions took place at rush hour near the popular Konark and Venkatadri cinemas and a bus stand in Dilsukhnagar, which has a large fruit and vegetable market.

...

Cellphone networks have been jammed in and around Dilsukhnagar to prevent false information from being disseminated.

This kind of ####### happens because people do not properly protect themselves with bombs of their own. As everyone knows, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a bomb is a good guy with a bomb. I just don't understand why people think they can safely commute to and from work without carrying a bomb.

Purely for effect, allow me to take the other side of this argument you're trying to make.

India has some pretty draconian rules around bombs and terrorists. Due process exists on the books but.. well let's just say people disappear. Frequently. And bomb making materials are tightly controlled. Very tightly controlled. And people who sell them, buy them... sometimes they go poof, never to be seen or heard from again.

And yet, this happened.

Why would gun control in a country like the US work?

I would speculate that there is more going on under the radar in India than there is in the US.

So let's move this along.

Is it unheard of, in your knowledge, for more "under the radar" activity to occur in environments that are more tightly controlled? Is this a phenomenon you've heard of before?

Gun Control obviously works...I mean just look at the murder rate in Chicago and New York...two heavily gun controlled liberal cities!/sarcasm

I'll admit that I've never been to India but from what I have seen in terms of developing and emerging countries elsewhere vs. developed countries, I don't see that the former are necessarily more tightly controlled. So I guess I don't buy into your premise.

My examples of "tight control" were very typical of developing countries. Extrajudicial action, making people "disappear", etc. "Tight control" in the US would mean something very different. Inspectors in every factory, thorough logs and documents and checks.

Regarding Chicago. Many of the guns used in Chicago homicides are purchased in legally run gun shops right outside city limits. And even more come in from Mississippi, which has lax gun control and is an area with which many of Chicago's urban families have familial links (for obvious reasons).

As for New York... New York is actually doing much better than Chicago is.

Extrajudicial action doesn't deter crime. Just as the death penalty doesn't deter capital offenses in these parts.

When ppl are on death row for 15 -20 years the death penalty has no deterant.

As per news reporter this blast was in retaliation of hanging of Afzal Guru, he was the mastermind of bomb blast back in 2011 on Indian Parliament.

And tomorrow, the Indian Army will burn another village in the valley and no media outlet will cover it.

I'm not shedding any tears for Afzal. He was scum and he deserved to die. However, there are a lot of questions that can be asked about the timing of his execution.

As for the Indian Army, they're part of the cycle of violence in the Valley. They give as good as they get.
