DCF in Mexico... CD Juarez?

Good day.

Has anyone applied for DCF in Mexico recently? I'm having a hard time finding non-conflicting up-to-date info.

1.Does the CD Juarez still accept DCF?

2.Is mailing in an option? (I live in the south of Mexico)

3.Time frame? Troubles?

4.I've been with my fiancée for 3 years. I've also held an FM3 for 3 years. Any news on getting married in Mexico. Current costs, requirements, delays???

Thanks.

I can help you through the process. We lived in Merida, Yucatan.

We were married there and then went through the process. It was fast for us since I had everything they wanted.

Thanks!

Wow, Scott and Emy... 42 days! Yes, that's quick. I would love to know more about it.

I'm in the US now. I came here to file the K1, and it appears the CR1 might be a better option. At any rate I have to catch up on US taxes and renew my passport - so it's not a wasted trip. When the passport is renewed I plan to go back to Mexico and get married! Then we can start the I 134 process, I hope.

Any pit holes to look out for? I will definitely need a co-sponsor.

Cheers!

Hello Pantera, do what Scott instructs you to do, he is very helpful. You are lucky because you can DCF in Mexico City, however once the I-130 is approved follow closely because the CDJ mail system is poor at best. I would go in person to DCF, try not to mail anything.

Thanks, johnandclaudia.

Do you recommend filing in person in Mexico City because of the spotty mailing system? For the two of us to travel to Mexico City and back would add another $500, at least, and more time off work. That's why I would prefer to mail in. Have you experienced or heard that doing it that way can cause delays or problems?

We used UPS to send our packet to Mexico City. That way we could track it and get delivery confirmation.

If you are sending to Mexico City USCIS, it should be ok to mail, but if you read the VJ "Guide" and the USCIS website, it does say in person or by mail if the USCIS office accepts them. We took the chance by mailing it in, and we wasted 2 months almost, in my case everything was done correctly but the USCIS officer wanted to see us in person, whereas Scott did it through mail with no issues. So if you want to take the chance by mail it is up to you.

Mexico City accepts applications sent in. CDJ does not. You must apply in person at CDJ. Pantera Negra lives in Mexico City territory.

This has me concerned. Have everything ready to send off the I-130 to CDJ this week. CDJ told me on the phone to send it via DHL and gave me the address to send it to. Live in Baja which is CDJ territory and getting both of us to CDJ in the near future isn't going to happen with our work schedules. USCIS at the embassy told me that about a month ago. Could this have changed?

I would call again to reconfirm the ability to send your packet. I would also double check the address to send it to. If the information you get matches your previous call, then I would say it would be safe to send it. If you do send it, use DHL. DHL is the company that USCIS uses in Mexico for everything important.

Make sure you have everything they want in the correct order in your packet before you send it. I can help you with that if you want.

Hello... I am living in Cabo San Lucas with my husband, we are recently married. I am American and we would like to start the visa filing process to move back to Chicago. I am working here with an FM3 visa. Which is the best route to go, filing for a spousal visa or a direct consular visa? My husband filed for a tourist visa in 2010 and was denied. Other than that, we have no other experiences. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mary

Hi, I'm the USC and have been living in Queretaro with my husband. I have an FM2 visa. Just to clarify... you would be filing for a IR-1/CR-1 spouse visa and since you reside in Mexico, you can file DCF (Direct Consular Filing). DCF is really quick and easy as long as you have all the required documents, etc... There's loads of info on this site and I'm confident that others who have done DCF would recommend it as well. You first file the I-130 petition with the USCIS and when approved they send your docs to the consulate in Ciudad Juarez. When that's done, you just need to complete the DS-260 on line and set up your appointments in Juarez. (Filing DCF means you skip the NVC process.) And, of course you'll need to gather all the required documents. Here are the steps: http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/iv_steps.html

(Since you're living in Mexico, when you get to the step of completing the Affidavit of Support, I-864, you'll have to provide evidence that you've maintained your domicile in the US or that you have taken active steps to re-establish your domicile there.)

I've found this site incredibly helpful throughout our process. I don't know if/how the 2010 tourist visa denial will impact your CR-1 process but others may have some experience to share.

:)

Ok great information. Would I be able to use my parent's address in Chicago as my dominicile? That is yhe last place where I lived before moving down here and all of my mail/ bills get sent there. As far as the affidavit of support, can personal savings/ assets count toward that? I have savings, but how much is enough? Also, about moving back to Chicago, I work as a speech therapist in Chicago. Everytime I go back to Chicago to visit, I work a few days in a rehab facility as a PRN therapist, as needed. I am not sure if I will be working there full time going back to Chicago, but can I use that as proof of returning to a job? Or would I need a sponsor? Hope this isn't confusing.

Thanks,

Mary
