To anyone that could help me get on the right path I would greatly appreciate it. I am a Canadian who is currently playing hockey in the United States professionally. My whole family is Canadian but for two years when I was younger I lived in Denver, Colorado because my Dad got transferred for work in the oil patch. Four years later I played junior hockey in Spokane, Washington using an H-2 working visa I believe for 4 years. I went back to school up in Canada and then for the last two years I have been playing hockey in the US professionally. So basically I have lived and worked somewhat in the United States for 8 years now and I am looking to apply for my green card. I have a girlfriend who is American and will look to be engaged and married soon, and was wondering if this is the right step to take in applying for my green card. Any direction or help would again be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can't just "apply for a greencard", but there are paths to a greencard, usually via a visa (work, family). If you get married, she can petition you for a spousal visa (since this is the forum you posted in), the process is explained here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1
