Questions for the RUB forum

What was the time between first contact (email, snail mail, other type of contact) and your formal proposal for marriage? I know we all move at different paces, I do not wish to turn this into a judgement session for those of us that are fast compared to those that take more time. So, please, no judgmental posts about times posted. Just curious where I fit in the overall population of RUB VJ'ers

If we will consider proposal as also an engagement (we didn't want to do any party out of it, it was just for us two, very funny and romantic day together), it was 7 months after our first conversation, and 1.5 months before we filed K-1.

Our "first contact" was a chance meeting at the Prague airport, so our first contact was meeting in person. We spent two evenings together in Prague (we were both there for business so we were busy during the day) We were up until 3-4am each night.

I told Alla she would marry me 2 days after I met her. Specifically she asked...

"What will we do now?" As I walked to the subway with her to return to the airport and leave Prague

"I will send you an email every day for the rest of my life. Even after we are married"

 She then said..."What happens now is up to you, you go ahead, I will follow behind"

A couple minutes later, as I went to go down the steps, she kissed me in a way that my toes have yet to come un-curled from. I took that as an acceptance.

I got home and there were THREE emails from her.

Technically I did not "propose", ask her "Will you marry me?" Until January 2008. I had met her in September 2007, so 4 months, BUT during that time we had been discussing the procedure, the children, education for her and the boys...it was kind of a foregone conclusion by Halloween, 6 weeks after we met, that we were preparing to get married.

We filed the petition in March 2008 after having gathered every document we needed and received the permission letter from the father for the children to get visas. We did nothing until we had everything prepared and in hand. Since there were children involved we felt that had to be first.

I still send her an email everyday, always have, only missed a couple days when I was in a coma following bypass surgery.

I had been living in Ukraine for two years and had a lot of Ukrainian women experience, But the moment I looked in her eyes I knew I had just met my wife. If that sounds "corny" so be it, it is a fact. That quick, everything changed

Good God Gary, you let a little thing like a coma stop you from emailing your wife??

Liliya and I started talking in November. We both knew that we would get married if we were the same people when we met in person that was on the other end of Skype, phone calls and email. We met in March in Moscow. We talked to the Family after we flew to her city and they gave us their blessing. We started the process in April and she arrived on September 13th. We got married on October 8th 2011.
