Who needs a CENOMAR?

Hey all,

After reading dozens of cases here I am now a bit confused about something called a CENOMAR. Certifcate of No Marriage, Elligability to Marry, etc.

Is there a list of which embassies require this? I have seen it under the Phillipines, China, India and South America most frequently. However we are applying through Naples. Nothing is mentioned about this on the Naples Consulate page or by the instructions, but it does state "Termination of Marriage Documents, if any." The same goes for military records (if any). Is it safe to presume that if you have never been married or served in the military, then you do not need to show proof?

I don't want to be surprised by some mystery form when we are at the embassy!

It's definitely for the Philippines and I'm not certain about the other countries you've mentioned.

Is it safe to presume that if you have never been married or served in the military, then you do not need to show proof?

I got my K1 through Naples. I had never been married or served in the military. I stated so on the forms and they didn't ask for any additional proof. I brought a Single Status certificate just in case, but they didn't want to see it. I was approved just fine.

CENOMAR is required in the Philippines as far as I've read, not sure about the other places you've mentioned. Good luck!

A+J, was there an italian name for this Single Statue Certificate? My fiance has her Identity card that says she is unmarried (issued in July 2012)- do you think this could be proof enough if that ever came into question?

CENOMAR is the certificate of NO marriage in the Philippines. You both will definitely need it prior to the marriage. It can be obtained from your local NSO office and yes a foreigner needs one also. Been there, done that.

I am living in the Philippines and am getting married in the Philippines. I am a US citizen. I was required to obtain a CENOMAR from NSO prior to the marriage here. It shows I was not previously married in the Philippines.

So you are not doing a K1 where this question was posted.

The US citizen does not need a CENOMAR for the K1 process in which the filipino would travel to the US to married there. You are saying yes, at a later date to be married in the Philippines you have regulations to follow but they are not related to the VISA process at all.

I am only responding because I think saying "you also need a cenomar" without describing why is confusing.
