hey, I had the same problem... well sort of... in any case, I just got my GC and that is when I went to get my ssc, no problem and used married last name... if you are not married yet when you try to apply again you can't use your married name because you will need your marriage certificate.... so... use your maiden name and then change it when you get your gc.... but I had towait to get my ssc when i got my gc... so.... Good luck!

watchful,

You will likely have problems if you apply in a name that is not in the CIS record of your immigration status, and you may possibly have problems if you let it be known that you are married.

Apply accordingly. You can always change your name with the SSA at some future date when you're past all the uncertainties.

Once you have your SSN you can go back to apply for the name change based on your K-1 status with your I-94 as long as you haven't been here 76 days or more. Otherwise you need an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card.

We waited until after we were married to apply for Marlene's SSN. We took her passport w/K1-visa and the marriage certificate and applied in her married name.
