Hi, we are currently on the process of expediting our case. We were told we are gonna hear from them on February 3rd. So as a preparation, i made my fiance a checklist of the things i would need from him for my interview (which i also got from this site). My fiance is in the USMC. he said that his proof of employment, tax statements, and wage statement is all in one document. He wasn't sure how he would go about collecting these, because he said its different for them Marines. Is there someone here who can please tell me what documents should I have for the interview? Coz im afraid, that if he gives me that paper which contains what would usually be in 3 separate documents, the embassy might not accept it. :( i just want to make sure I have everything coz we can't afford anymore delays. thanks in advance. :)

Well, there are a few documents he can provide, I think he may be talking about his Leave & Earnings Statement (LES). The LES specifies which branch of service you are in, how much in taxes you pay out of that paycheck (you are issued an LES for each month of pay), and how much in wages you get, although while helpful, will probably not satisfy all the requirements necessary. It's basically a pay stub. If he sends you his statement of service letter, his last W-2 or last couple W-2s, and a few LES's (the past six months is usually what I do), that should be sufficient to prove his employment and income level. He can get the W-2 and LES's on MyPay, and I'm not sure how the Marines keep their records, but for the Air Force we have something called the Automated Records Management System (ARMS), which digitally allows us to access every official document concerning our service and print it out or review it if need be, so if the USMC has an equivalent to that, he can use that.

Ok. I am gonna let him read your message. coz he said he needed someone who can translate the documents needed, like someone who can talk military. haha. So you're saying we should be prepared with statement of service letter, last couple of W2s and LES for the past six months? the embassy will accept that?

Well, I'm always hesitant to say yes, because I don't know your embassy's exact requirements. However, if the purpose is to satisfy the interviewer's curiosity as to whether your fiance makes enough to support you and he is genuinely in the USMC, those SHOULD meet that criteria.

I should also add that if he can get a letter signed by his Commander, or supervisor, etc. in his command's letterhead that attests that he is in fact a member of the USMC and what his postion/job is, that should also be accepted by the embassy as proof of employment.

I know, a lot of "shoulds," but everyone is different, so I can't really predict the outcome.

We provided the letter from his commanding officer, stating that he is deploying soon. We also added letter explaining the reason for expedite request (they asked for it in the email). They accepted it and we had biometrics+interview week later :)

I think Khal_Drogo summed it up pretty well. My husband is Army not Marines but we gave them his LES and his Tax papers and we also had an expedite letter from his Batallion Commander we had submitted which we used as the letter for "proof of employment" too. I also took photocopies of our military IDs aswell. I think the only thing they really looked at when i went to the Embassy was the tax documents (but like previously stated Embassys have different rules and regs so keep up to check on your personal one)

Thank you so much. You've been very helpful. I think we're gonna do just that and we'll call our embassy too just to make sure. :)

  • 6 months later...

My fiance is in the Marines and we are filing for k1 visa.. To sum up what you guys said (and also pretty much what I sent) we should've sent his LES (preferably several months), Letter from CO with his (rank, pay, etc), w2 (we sent the last 3 years), and his USMC I.D.

My questions are:

1. Do I need to bring his more recent LES's to the interview or the same ones we sent for k1?

2. Does he need to provide proof that he is considered for re-enlistment?

and to admortemfidelis:

I noticed on your timeline to you got an RFE sis, can you tell me what it was about? I'm specifically curious if it was about the Affidavit of Support/Taxes part so we can be prepared if we missed anything too. And what was the interviewer's questions mostly about? Did he ask a lot of your hubby's job description etc?

Thanks in advance guys!!

He forgot to sign his g325a. So he had to fax them that. During the interview I wasnt asked much. They just asked how we met, what he does, where his from, and hia hobbies and thats that. Dont worry about the interview its easy just be honest. :)
