Me and my Ghanian fiance are currently living apart. We are a real couple who have known each other for a while and have met in person through a film project we are working on. Ghana is a country known for fraud. Will I need to hire an immigration attorney to navigate through the stigma attached to having a fiance from Ghana.

Hello r1ck,

Many countries in Africa are known for fraud and other countries too. Regarding the process of K-1, you will not need a immigration lawyer, I am married to a Ghanaian and they way I chose to process our documents was without an attorney. There is great information and people here that will help you make sure your documents are in order. Oh, don't worry about the so called stigma, it is about your happiness so other people will just have to adjust to it. :)

A lawyer can't do anything you can do for yourself.

Get familiar with the term "front-loading". Meaning you don't send in the bare minimum requirements when you send in your petition. You load it up with your best evidence.

For Ghana and like my husband Lagos its about face time together. So showing you have had much time together. Meeting family and friends is very important also.

Did you have a engagement party? Good photo- op there also.

I know it may seem daunting but read through the guides ask anything and everything that comes to mind and you will be just fine.
