we received a RFE letter because we didn't meet the poverty guidelines. My father in law who lives in the same house is willing to help us. Which form should we use? i-864 or i-864a? Thank you.

And one more thing, if we use i-864 they're asking for Alien registration number for the immigrant. When they sent me a letter it has the receipt number and alien registration number (I assume it starts with letter A123456789) So should I put the assigned number to the form we will fill up? Part 2 no. 6? or should I still put none?

Unless you are financially tied to your father-in-law (he lists your and/or your husband as dependants on his tax return) then both your husband and your FIL: should use I-864.
