Hello,

My wife and I just married on the 4th, she lives and works in Montreal and I am currently attending a paramedic academy in California as I wanted a career change. Because of our situation we do not share any property (I am staying with family until graduation) and the only financial tie we have is a savings account for vacation/travel purposes. We don't share a checking account as it makes no sense since we live apart and she works at a hospital full time and supports herself.

What I am wondering is if I should be explaining all of these things in my cover letter or if the cover letter should just be a simple list of contents? And if I should not include this in the cover letter is there another place I should write out this information? Just curious if they will wonder why we are married and don't have "strong" financial ties.

Thank you for any help :)

Cover letter is a list of contents really. Many couples do not have strong financial ties but you can do things like add each other on car insurance, have the spouse as the beneficiary of life insurance, show emails, skype calls, text messages, letters, boarding passes, passport stamps etc... to show that you have a genuine ongoing relationship (aka bona fide marriage.)

Thank you Niki. We have most of those things so we will just have to stick with that I guess. :)

No worries. :) We didn't' sent a tonne of evidence honestly, and I worry about it a little bit. But I know I don't come from a high fraud country and we can supply more evidence if necessary. I'll let ya know how that works out for us at a later date. LOL ;)

Hi!

First of all, Congrats on your wedding!!!

As newlyweds the USCIS understands that is normal that you don't have properties together, a checking acount, a car lease, etc. yet

Of course it's great if you have them, but in case that you don't, you shouldn't worry too much about it. Just imagine how hard is it sometimes for any newlywed couple living together -in the same country- to buy a house right after the wedding! If it's hard for them, of course for a couple who live in 2 diff countries it's going to be a little more complicated.

When we sent our I-130 we didn't have a joint bank account yet, we just had as evidence thousands of photos of us since day 1 when we met until our honeymoon ( but we sent like 8 pages of pics printed in color), facebook screenshots (major events like changing our relationship status from single to in a relationship with..., our engagement, our wedding), emails (we selected like 10 emails), affidavits from our parents and friends, flight and bus tickets from our trips together and correspondence between us. But we have NO properties together!

We decided to write a letter together explaining how we met, how our relationship developed through the time and how did we decided to get married, we both signed the letter and we added it to the evidence!!

We basically sent all what we had in that moment, and guess what? NO RFE's, we got approved! :)

So, relax and send the evidence you have now, dont stress too much,

Good luck!!
