passport matter

my passport will expire this may, and it should be 6 months valid right? when u go abroad. so my K1 visa interview will be hopefully in jan or feb, so need to renew it right away!

the problem was, the DFA asked me a CFO certificate as requirement for renewal. so i plan again to go back to DFA and change the purpose to tourist so no other requirements would be asked... anyway, ill have the CFO seminar when my visa arrives after the interview...praying...

would that be ok?

Wow, I don't actually have an answer for you. I guess it depends upon whether the DFA notices the change you're trying to make and becomes suspicious. But it gets me to thinkin', when my wife gets her name changed on her passport, if they're going to be asking for her CFO certificate. I guess I'd better warn her about the possibility.

I suggest the passport renewal now. When they renew a passport, they do not transfer any of the stamps in the passport but will give u the old on back. If u renew now, no chance of losing ur CFO stamp. second thing to remember it take up to 6 weeks to renew a passport in the U.S., so that means 10 weeks on Filipino time? I really suggest you get the passport renewed now or at minimum at the 6 month point which u r already at. Good luck, Payato

I don't understand the CFO seminar requirment to renew passport. My girl on Monday went to the passport office and requested hers renewed. She will pick it up on Wed. They didn't ask for a CFO stamp. Though it is possible that she already had the stamp bcuz of tourist visa a couple years back.

Excactly BJ, I think the young lady has something confused. If her Passport is withing 6 months of expiration, they know it needs to be renewed and there is not CFO stamp requirement to acquire or renew a passport. Payato

Fel, What is the expiration date of your passport? If you are within 6 months of the expiration date, they should not need anything to renew your passport. If you are outside the 6 months, that might be why they are asking for the CFO certificate. Second did you tell the passport folks that you are renewing because you are applying for a K1? If so, go to a different passport place and do not tell them why u r renewing. Good luck, Ken (Payato)

ken,

my passport will expire in may 18, 2007..in the form, u have to state/check the purpose so i wrote there for the k1 visa or abroad.they still asked me the purpose even they read it already.and asked the cfo certificate. even my friend in DFA asked me to secure one. He will just process my passport in 2 days!he's a father of my student who's in charge in the passport section in DFA:) so, manila-here i go! (L)

thanks...

fel
