There's a lot of talk about how to deal with incidents like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown Connecticut, and one being floated by conservatives is the idea of arming school teachers and administrators.

That's not a far out idea. The Harrold ISD in North Texas has allowed teachers to carry guns in the classroom since 2008, according to principal David Thweatt.

"If you are unarmed, these people are going into those areas where they know people will not be able to resist," Thweatt told 1200 WOAI news.

He says the Harrold ISD, which is west of Wichita Falls, is in a rural area where there is 'no way' that law enforcement would be able to arrive in time to deal with an emergency.

He says the process of allowing teachers to carry guns in school is a complicated one.

"First, they have to have a concealed handgun license," Thweatt said. "Then that individual is approved by our school board to carry on our campus, then there is additional training, and then they have to use what is called 'frangible' ammunition, which is ammunition which breaks apart when it hits a hard object."

He says teachers do now wear their guns visibly in the classroom, and most leave the guns in their desk, out of sight of the students. He says in the four years it has been allowed, there have been no incidents relating to the practice.

Hill County gun dealer Crockett Keller has begun offering a discount to teachers who want to take the training necessary to carry a concealed handgun.

"The standard price is $110, but I will offer teachers the course for $90," Keller told 1200 WOAI news from his gun store in Mason, west of Austin. "It's the same discount I give to veterans."

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
