We are starting my husbands N-400 in the beginning of January. We got married in 2006 with a fiance visa. My husband was over 26 when he moved here from Brazil. He was in The United States several times as a tourist, he had a student visa for college, and the 1 year work visa after he graduated college. He never applied for the selective services because he didn't know he needed to. Will this be an issue when we apply? What do we write as the explanation? Thanks!

Men only have to register for selective service between the ages of 18 and 26. If he was over 26 when he moved here, you are fine.

Edited to add: And you don't have to register as a visitor or student. Don't worry

I had to provide my SS status when I applied for a federal loan and my citizenship interview is coming up as well so if IO asks for it, I can show it too.

It takes only a couple of weeks to get the status letter. If you want to get the letter, here is the website

You shouldn't need to submit anything in the initial filing. However, if asked at the interview you will just have to show that your husband entered the U.S. after the age of 26. His passport with entry stamp or I-94 should show the date proving he entered after age 26.
