Hello All -

In collecting items to prove proof of US domicile (I live in the UK), I plan to include active bank statements from two accounts in the USA. I had them both long before I left and have continued to use them while away (1.5 years). Can anyone tell me if printing copies of these statements from online will be sufficient, or will I need to get certified copies from my bank? Any help would be great. Thanks! :)

I'm in the same situation as you are (doing DCF in Philippines). I was just going to print out whatever I can get from my bank's web access site, like some recent statements and stuff. I know I can also print out the 2011 yearly statement that is used for filing taxes from there. I would also like to hear from someone who's done this and what they submitted as proof of those bank accounts. I own an insured vehicle in the US and I have a letter from mom and dad saying we can stay with them, but that's about it for my proof of domicile; kinda worried about that part of it. I think those US bank accounts will be big evidence for me.

Did you vote in the most recent election? I did, so I plan to reprint the email I got (registered online) as additional supporting evidence. If you have a job offer in the USA, you could have them write you a letter? Any other mail that goes to your US address would be helpful.

Yes, I should hope they will accept a copy of a license, as I do not plan to send in mine, either! But, do you reckon they will accept copies of bank statements?

I'm not at that stage, but I would hope so.

I don't have originals because I receive E-Statements so prints of my E-statements technically ARE original lol

They also like copies of leases and I don't think they expect you to forfeit your least for however long.

But for all I know, they do, because there are some things that this gov't requires that just don't make sense sometimes. For instance, to update the name on my SSN by mail, I have to send in my original updated license..... Yeah, I'm not giving anyone that

I had my parents send me a bunch of junk mail that comes in my name to their address; they'll probably just laugh at that though lol. I don't want to start applying for US jobs until we get the visa secured. What about showing them a copy of a US-based life insurance policy; do you think that could help?

Should this be in the DCF section?

We left the US for 3 years and surrendered a greec card to do it. Knowing that I would eventually have to return:

I kept my vehicle registrations/drivers license/insurance active registered/addressed to my parents address

Ditto for bank accounts - all of our banking was joint and was done from the US

Credit cards - we had several us based cards and they were addressed to my parents address

Kept an active cell phone plan - same address

Vonage phone (our overseas phone LOL) addressed the same

everything else (401k's etc) were also addressed there

On the issue of original documents: I all of our filings and approvals I have never submitted an original unless at an interview where it was handed right back.

So basically I showed (2) insured vehicles, drivers license/insurance, phone, credit cards, bank statements, 401K statements as proof of intending residence.
