Hey, my wife wants to work (desperately), she has a SS# but it says "valid for work only with DHS authorization" and most jobs like local clothing stores and other local jobs request SS# we are in the process of filing and sending the AOS forms this month, can she work with that SS# even though it says "valid for work only with DHS authorization" on it????????????? HELP!!!!

She can not work until you file for AOS AND she receives the EAD card. Even though her SS# will not change she can not work until she has the EAD as she will need to show this once she is hired.

Yes, she needs to file for form I-765 as well as with her AOS paperwork. A SSN alone doesn't grant her the permission to work.

The DHS authorization is an EAD or a Green card.

File for AOS/EAD (+AP if you want). EAD and AP fees are waived when filed with AOS. Total will be $1,070.

EAD and AP will be approved in 2-3 months.

So she cannot work right now, the soonest would be in 2-3 months after she sent her applications.
