When I went to the principal I would use my 'one call' to call a lawyer (my best friend's dad who hated the school system) or the news (my girlfriend's mom was a reporter who hated the school system). The school started to call my parents directly after that. Most of my trips to his office were for civil disobediance so my parents were supportive as long as I was willing to take the punishment (my parents wouldn't punish me for what they saw as 'political' or 'policy' things). But it is where I learned that the legal and media system were normally on my side. And the school system was on their own side. They don't have education in their hearts...the have their own butts in mind.

obviously your parents were selfish too. They kept sending you there. Or is it be because it was just easier for them.

Why is it selfish? Shouldn't kids learn that they have legal rights? Kids should speak out in their schools against the administrators and keep them in check. The culture in schools now is sad. I rarely see teachers or adminstators power or rules questioned. There need to be a check...in the 60s 70s 80s it was the kids who would push that envelope. No American kids are taught to just tow the line and follow the rules. I makes me fear we will turn into an EU country...surrender when thigs get tough. Not the kind of enviroment I want for my children. Kids need to stand up for themselves against oppression.

Sounds like a load of ####### to me. I'd be in that principals office and he'd be having to explain quite a lot to me.

Why are so many assuming that the boy is being less than forthcoming with the truth? I figure his mom knows whether or not she can take his word.....

Some kids really know how to lie. Some parents believe anything their kids say.

Wow, a lot of moral parsimony in here!

:P I gave up on that test after taking it twice. Some of those moral dilemnas were giving my soul convulsions. If ever I'm faced with such a dilemna I think I'll just run away from it.

When I was in the 3rd grade, a bully in school started beating me up every day. At first I didn't say anything, but then I told dad. He got a real scared look on his face and asked if the bully had a big dad. I said I didn't know. But he still seemed scared. And just a few days later we moved to a new town. Dad told me that if anyone picked on me, not to fight back. Unless I knew the kid didn't have a dad or the dad was real small. Otherwise just curl up in a ball. ~ Jack Handy

To a large extent school personnel up to the highest level have only one interest at heart - their own. They try to cover their backsides to the nth degree.

Unfortunately these guys have forgotten that kids are just that - kids. They have also forgotten that their job is to educate kids, in more ways than just teaching them what's on the curriculum.

"Education" is the key word here. Education is more than to train children like dogs and to punish them like dogs.

Disclaimer: I apologize to all teachers on this board who do a good and effective job, who are true teachers, not trainers. They are not included in this statement.

Yet when something happens to the child of a parent with that attitude they promptly call in the lawyers and the superintendent. Then accuse the teacher of failing to do their job.. That sort of attitude is one of the main reason certain kids have absolutely NO respect for authority or adults today and think the world revolves around them. I give a lot of praise to the ####### teachers have to put up with in the US due to incompetent parents.

Anyone seen the movie Bully on HBO. Interesting film to watch.. LINK

I remember seeing another film, also based on a true story, where a Beverly Hills bully beats a kid to the point where he has to learn to walk and speak again yet totally denies it. As a form of punishment, the bully's parent not only totally defends her son but hires a group of high price lawyers to discredit the crime. Therefore the scumbag gets away with it.. I forgot the name of that film.. Pretty disturbing to watch.. ###### if that ever happened too anyone I know, especially my own kid, the bully and his parent would wish they were never born..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
