GOP Senate candidate cites Romney for bad poll numbers

Washington (CNN) - A new poll out of Wisconsin this week shows Republican Senate candidate Tommy Thompson suddenly falling behind in his race against Democrat Tammy Baldwin.

Thompson is blaming the slip, in part, on the rocky campaign of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

"The presidential thing is bound to have an impact on every election," Thompson told Madison television station WKOW on Wednesday. "You know, whether you're a Democrat or Republican. If you're a standard-bearer for the presidency is not doing well, it's going to reflect on the down ballot."

Sununu: Thompson 'sounds like Barack Obama'

(CNN) – John Sununu, an outspoken surrogate to Republican nominee Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, criticized fellow conservative Tommy Thompson for blaming bad poll numbers on Mitt Romney earlier Thursday, likening the senate candidate to President Barack Obama himself.

Thompson cited Romney's campaign as being partly to blame for his slipping poll numbers. His comments come after a Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday showed Thompson trailing Democratic opponent Tammy Baldwin by nine points among likely voters in the Senate race. The same poll showed Thompson leading Baldwin by nine points one month earlier.

Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire and Romney campaign surrogate, said Thompson "sounds like Barack Obama trying to blame it on somebody else."

Their goose is cooked. About the only thing to look forward to in November for Republicans is Thanksgiving.

They need to come back to the center.

Their policies are terrible. And they want to double down on Bushonomics which turned a $5.6 trillion surplus into a $5 trillion deficit ($10 trillion swing).

If you haven't balanced a budget since the 50s then you're doing it wrong!
